Star Princess cruises cancelled

Carnival Corp has had to take the fire-damaged Star Princess out of service until mid-May and cancel the four remaining voyages in the ship’s Caribbean cruise season while it undergoes repairs in Germany.

Passengers booked on Star Princess cruises departing on April 9, 16, 23 and 30 will receive a full refund as well as a 25 per cent discount on a future cruise. Caribbean departures on March 26 and April 2 were already cancelled following the fire.

One person died and 11 were injured after a fire broke out on the ship near Jamaica on March 23. More than 100 cabins were charred.

Carnival said the ship would be back in service for its first European cruise, due to depart from Copenhagen, Denmark, on May 15.
